Joan is a highly qualified Safety Practitioner. Bachelor of Engineering (BE), Member of the Institute Of Engineers of Ireland (MIEI) Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) and a registered H&S Practitioner (RMaPS).

She currently heads the TPS Schal Health and Safety consultancy business, the leading provider of CDM Coordinators and other health and safety services in the UK. She is widely recognized as an industry leader in her field and was recently commissioned by the UK Statutory Framework Authority (HSE) to review the existing H&S CDM Regulations, influencing and developing future UK legislation.

Joan has provided safety training and procedural review services to many of the UKs leading contractors and employers including Carillion, Kier, KBR, and the MOD. Her commissions have covered the major sectors of Health, Education, Retail, and Leisure.

Always at the forefront of Health and safety in the UK construction Industry Joan is an elected member of the Institution of Occupational Health and Safety (IOSH) construction committee.

Joan is married with one son (15).

She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Frimely Park Hospital in Surrey. This is a voluntary role which involves her assisting the Trust in the delivery their role of managing the hospital in a financially sound medically adept manner.

Joan’s other key interests vary from reading – with a particular interest in medieval history to tennis – being a member of the Lawn Tennis Association.
